On November 6, 2025, a significant training event on Sustainability and Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) was successfully held at the Environmental Assessment (EA) Department Hall, with hybrid participation. This programme was a collaborative effort between the Africa Green Economy and Sustainability Institute (AGESI) and Natural Eco Capital, aimed at empowering leaders and advancing sustainable development practices within environmental assessment institutions.
The training featured a well-curated agenda filled with insightful presentations and interactive sessions. Participants engaged deeply with core themes, including sustainability principles, climate resilience, ecosystem services, and stakeholder engagement. The programme underscored the critical importance of integrating sustainability considerations across every phase of ESIA processes to ensure more impactful and inclusive environmental assessments.

Esteemed contributions from the EA Department leadership and technical teams were notable highlights. Their opening remarks set an inspiring tone, emphasizing the department’s commitment to sustainability. Technical presentations on monitoring, evaluation, and compliance mechanisms strengthened participants’ understanding of ensuring sustainable outcomes. The seamless organization and warm hospitality by the EA Department secretariat further enhanced the training experience.
Collaborative inputs from AGESI and Natural Eco Capital enriched the sessions with expert knowledge on emerging green economy practices and environmental stewardship strategies. The participant reflections and working sessions demonstrated a strong collective resolve to embed sustainability practices more comprehensively within assessment procedures.
To enhance continuous improvement, a participant evaluation questionnaire was circulated post-training to gather feedback for future planning and programme refinement.
This training initiative marks a crucial milestone in strengthening institutional capacities for sustainability-focused environmental assessments. The organisers expressed heartfelt gratitude to the EA Department and all partners for their professionalism and dedication, highlighting hopes for ongoing collaboration to promote environmental sustainability across the region.
