As the world transitions from a linear to a circular economy, universities play a vital role in teaching and learning to research and act. To harness this essential role and galvanise implementation, actions require collaboration between the university community members and other external stakeholders, including the public and private sectors.
To accelerate the momentum into the circular economy space at the Igbinedion University, Okada, and Edo State at large, the Centre for Climate Change and SDGs at the university is in collaboration with Natural Eco Capital, the promoter of eco waste-to-wealth, to create awareness and scale circular economy solutions that benefit the immediate, local and state economies and people.
Natural Eco Capital, in partnership with Igbinedion University, launched the Circular Economy Club and installed a plastic baling machine donated to Natural Eco Capital by Coca-Cola Foundation under CYCLEPLAST Project coordinated by Nigeria Climate Innovation Centre.
Since its inception in 2020 of its activities through its eco waste-to-wealth flagship, Natural Eco Capital is said to have rid the environment of 16 million plastic bottles through recycling.
