Natural Eco Capital, CEO, Presents “Green Bond as a Finance Instrument for Implementation of Nigeria’s Nationally Determined Contributions at the Green Bond Retreat for the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Climate Change Organised by Federal Ministry of Environment with the support of UNDP.
Dr. Eugene Itua, CEO, Natural Eco Capital was the Resource Person at the Green Bond Retreat for Inter-Ministerial Committee on Climate Change Organised by Federal Ministry of Environment with the support of UNDP on 30-31 July 30-31, 2018 at Asaa Pyramid Hotel, Kaduna State, Nigeria.
In his paper, titled “Green Bond as a Finance Instrument for Implementation of Nigeria’s Nationally Determined Contributions, “Eugene highlighted the Climate Actions investment and the Green Bond Linkage, Nigeria Green Bond Process and the role of the Capital Market in Green Bond as “capital market with a ‘green conscience.’”
He further provided information on the metrics of the green bond framework identification and generation of a pipeline of projects that could meet the “green” criteria to the implementing MDAs and other stakeholders in attendance.
The Retreat was pursuant to the successful issuance of Nigeria’s first Sovereign Green Bonds in December 2017, and the determination of Federal Ministry of Environment to commence the preparations for the second issuance in 2018. Recall, Nigeria launched its Sovereign Green Bond then to fund projects with sufficient climate reasoning towards meeting the country’s emissions targets as contained in the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) approved by the President in 2015.
