10 Sep, 2024 | | By: Rantiola Akinola

At the heart of the Paris Agreement and the achievement of its long-term goals, Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) embody efforts by each country to reduce national emissions and adapt to the impacts of climate change.

In 2021, Nigeria updated its NDCs to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), reaffirming its commitment to limit global warming to below two °C in line with the Paris Agreement. Nigeria demonstrates strong public and private sector participation in its climate action efforts, aiming to contribute significantly to global emission reduction targets.

This introduction forms the agenda of the Nigeria Stocktake project towards implementing the third NDC.

Key Points from Nigeria’s Updated NDC

Natural Eco Capital, in close collaboration with the National Climate Change Council (NCCC) and with the support of the NDC-Partnership and the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office of the UK, provided an update on the status of NDC implementation plans in all related sectors and applicable financing. This initiative also offered a comprehensive overview of the climate change response in Nigeria, covering adaptation and mitigation measures at both national and sub-national levels.

The event hosts stakeholders from the MDAs. CSOs, private sectors and media were held Thursday, Sept 05, 2024, at the Abuja.
